Fall vacation in Spain, sightseeing in the sun. Classical tourist shots. Darn.
2 months late, and with no clue on what to share. My last post didn´t turn out as the game changer in my photography as i hoped for. Still my shots are decent enough, but they aren´t telling a story or creating any greater emotions. Anyhow, here are my three shots from august.
I guess every photographer, or want-to-be-photographer, struggle to find their own look and expression. Well, so do I. This month I‘ve had some inspiring talks with a actual photographer in the quest of discovering what I want to shoot, what my story is supposed to be?
This month I‘ve shot some nice family photos, pp them cool in Lightroom and I‘m really satisfied with the outcome. They would look great in a family album, but they don‘t tell a story, they document what happened, OK they told a story, our story, but who really cares what we did this month?
In my “perfect“ July Lightroom catalogue I have super sharp shots of tropical butterflies, joyful low light moments and a happy, loving, beautiful bokeh family. That doesn‘t change the world. Or tell astory. To anyone else - then us.
And then there are the snapshots.
The imperfect, unsharp and (slightly) out of focus shots that for some reason gets my attention. Why do they do that? Why do they create more curiosity then my “perfect” shots?
I have noe idea, but maybe I should bang up an old fifty, set a slow shutter speed, a monochrome filter and never perfectly align anything. Hey, I‘ll do nude selfies. Perfectly imperfect. Maybe I just hand the camera to the kids? Hell that would solve everything. Then, after doing all of that, getting all the shit together, I would still only be documenting my life, not really tell a story. By all means. It‘s great, but - really?
So what next?
I don‘t know. I still want to snap my family. The perfect July. I still need that. After all, that‘s what I love. But I need a project. Something else. I need to tell a story. Something in between 500px.com and fuckyouverymuch.dk, but what I have no idea. So, until then, this is my beautifully imperfect July.
This month we reached several peaks. The teenager finished elementary school celebrating with a night without sleep. We explorer a small ravine in the poring rain and last, but not least, we successfully ascended Galdhøpiggen. Norways tallest mountain at 2469 meters. All shots at 12mm.
Bought my first ever zoom lens this month. The Olympus 12-40 f2.8 Pro. Large, heavy, great build. The month of May was shot with this lens. The first two at 12mm, the last one at 36mm. It has been a weird month. The first one shot in sun, the second in the poring rain and the last one on a windy and cold day.
Another month gone. The summer is making sporadic attempts to return, but the winter is fighting back.
Brand new camera, same old objects & a eclipse.
After more or less half a year of absence the sun suddenly decides to reaper. Blue sky, blue diving glasses and a brand new Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mack II.
The last couple of months have been a bit more challenging than usual and the camera haven´t been top of mind this month. Luckily a friend invited me for his first ever concert and most of the shots from january 2015 is from this concert. I´ve added a bonus “kiss shot” this month as the concert ended in a proposal and the proposal ending with a “yes”
So, this is me, and this is my current project. My three favorite shots from each month. Will be interesting to see how my mood and the seasons will change my view, focus and postproduction work. Three shots each month ending up at 36 frames of 2015. Check out the project from 2014 here
